IFI was founded with the belief that every child deserves to grow up in a home with a loving, caring and involved father or father-figure.  Unfortunately, 4 out of 10 Illinois children are growing up in a father absent home.  Not surprisingly, children from fatherless homes are significantly more likely to: commit suicide, run away, drop out of high school, engage in premarital sex, have behavioral disorders, smoke cigarettes, abuse drugs and alcohol, grow up in poverty, and end up in prison.  As a result, IFI has created and supported programs in Illinois schools and hospitals connecting children and fathers by promoting responsible fathering and helping equip men to become better fathers and father figures.
